Meeting the Challenges

This plan tells you what the Police Authority and the Constabulary will do over the next three years to keep you, your family, friends and property as safe as possible.
Our 106 neighbourhood beats are at the heart of everything we do. Wherever you live in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland there is a team of dedicated officers tackling what matters to you. If you don't know who these ‘guardians' are then follow the link below to find out.

Please, get to know your local officers by telling them what is important to you. You will be playing a vital part in helping keep your area safe.
Neighbourhoods are important because all crime happens in someone's backyard. But, as you might expect, much work takes place behind the scenes. This plan also tells you what we are doing to make life difficult for criminals and to bring them to justice.
Just one case like ‘Operation Beanbag' shows just how much work can go on out of view. Leicestershire Officers spent two years secretly tracking a group of drug traffickers who were moving Class A, B and C drugs around the country. We observed, investigated and gathered evidence and in a series of raids seven men were arrested. They are currently awaiting sentence.
This plan also shows what we do new and differently to meet your needs and spend your money wisely.
Over the last year we have invested in the latest technology which allows us to provide an even better service. We use satellite technology to make sure that officers are patrolling where they can have the most impact locally. We have also given all our patrolling officers laptops or Blackberry® handheld computers. These allow officers access to all the information needed to do their job without returning to the station.
We have also cut bureaucracy with a return to "common sense policing." Many crimes which take place in communities, for example graffiti, are unlikely to result in a significant sentence at court. So, we have been bringing victims and offenders together and getting offenders to make amends for their crime, an example by removing the graffiti. This sort of approach has made victims of crime more satisfied, freed up officers to get back on the beat and detect more crime and improve communities.
We want the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to have the best police service in England and Wales, delivered by a Constabulary that is ‘Second to None'. We take our reputation very seriously because it is only by delivering a ‘Second to None' service that you can be assured that we are doing everything we can to protect you and your community.
