Authority engage well at Stride June 14th 2010
STRIDE is a social enterprise that helps young people aged 14-19 to learn new skills in a working environment. Courses include Carpentry, Motor Mechanics, Hair and Beauty and Catering. More details about STRIDE can be accessed via their website.
As part of the Authorities consultation programme, several Police Authority Members attended the event on 25 May which was held over the lunch period in the student cafe.
Students had the opportunity to speak to members of the authority and local police officers about what concerns them and also complete a priority setting survey. Information gained from these surveys help inform the priority setting process. There was information about Police Stops, drugs, driving safely and there was a Firearms vehicle as well as some police kit so that the students could get an idea of how technology helps the police do their job. Free pizza and pop was on offer for those who took part and nearly 80 surveys were completed. The members certainly engaged well with the students and there was a definite buzz about the day. A return vist will be planned in the future to feedback the results to the students.
