CLAIMS UNDER THE RIOT (DAMAGES) ACT 1886 August 12th 2011
In such circumstances the owners of businesses and/or domestic premises or their insurers may lodge claims against the relevant Police Authority for compensation for the damage caused during such disorder.
If you, or your business, have suffered any damage as a result of the recent disturbances, your first point of contact should be your own insurance company. They will be able to advise you whether or not you are covered by your own insurance. If you are covered by your own insurance then they will deal with the matter on your behalf.
If you do not have insurance cover, or are advised by your insurance company that the specific damage is not covered by your policy then you may be able to make a claim from the Police Authority. If you have any queries further details are available on www.direct.gov.uk/riotadvice
YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE ANY CLAIM WITHIN 42 DAYS OF THE INCIDENT TAKING PLACE.
