Leicestershire Police Authority

Performance

Under the Police Act 1996 the primary resposibility of the police authority is to maintain an efficient and effective police force.  There are a number of specific duties which compliment this general responsibility.  These include:

  • Publishing a rolling 3 year Policing Plan.
  • Publishing an Annual Report to feed back to the community at the end of the year on the extent to which the policing plan has been met.
  • Set Local Objectives for the constabulary.

Our latest Policing Plan is web based and can be accessed here.

The latest Annual Report can be seen here.

Local Objectives set for 2009/10 are:

  1. To maintain and where possible improve on the provision of an excellent quality of service at front enquiry offices.
  2. To maintain and where possible improve on the complaints handling process.
  3. To maintain and where possible improve on beat officer and neighbourhood PCSO abstraction.
  4. To maintain and where possible improve response to incidents.
  5. To support the business community through enhanced prevention and resolution of business related crime.
  6. To improve resolution of local crime and anti-social behaviour through community based resolutions.

The performance to date is reported to the Police Authority each quarter.  The latest report will be published here shortly.

Whilst the Chief Constable is responsible for the operational functions of Leicestershire Constabulary through the management of area and department performance, the Authority scrutinises performance of the Force through its various committees.

Any member of the public is welcome to attend any meetings of these committees for business on the open part of the agenda.  The following committees normally include reviews of various aspects of Force performance.

Strategic Aim: Increase public confidence and satisfaction.  The Policing Green Paper, 'From the Neighbourhood to the National', puts improving public confidence at its heart by giving the police more freedom to tackle local problems and the public more say in determining local priorities.  To reflect this shift in emphasis, the Home Office has moved away from centralised targets and has set only one target for police forces, to increase the 'percentage of people who agree that the police and local council are dealing with the anti-social behaviour and crime issues that matter in their area'.

Information showing the levels of public confidence will be published here when it becomes available.

To improve public confidence that the police and local council are dealing with the anti-socialbehaviour and crime issues that matter locally. Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership-level indicator derived from local surveys is to be made availableto the public. This can be viewd by clicking here.
